Lonesome Dove: The Series (1994)
Lonesome Dove: The Series re-united Diahann Carroll with Billy Dee Williams, who - just like in Dynasty - plays her husband. Ms. Carroll appears in a total of seven episodes of the series. The following is an official presentation of the series, once available on the TNT website:
LONESOME DOVE THE SERIES was inspired by the success of the 1989 miniseries Lonesome Dove and its sequel, Return to Lonesome Dove. Based in part on characters created by Larry McMurtry in his Pulitzer Prize® winning novel, Lonesome Dove, Lonesome Dove: The Series is executive produced by Suzanne de Passe, Robert Halmi Jr., and Robert Halmi Sr. and brings to life all the grit, romance, and excitement that classic westerns have brought to American entertainment.
The central character of the series is Newt Call (formerly
known as Newt Dobbs, played by Scott Bairstow). He took his real father's
last name after Woodrow Call acknowledged paternity. Newt leaves his father
and friends at the beginning of the 
series
and begins a perilous journey across the Montana territories, eventually settling
in Curtis Wells. It is here that Newt meets his future business partner
Ida Grayson (Diahann Carroll), his bride Hannah Peale (Christianne Hirt),
and his arch-nemesis Clay Mosby (Eric McCormack), a former Confederate officer
who is also in love with Hannah. Other characters introduced during the first
season include
Paul Le Mat as newspaper publisher Josiah Peale, father of Hannah, and Paul
Johansson as Hannah's brother, Austin Peale.
Each episode in season one begins with a scene set in 1925 as an unseen
narrator
takes a book from the shelf and begins narrating the episode. Some of the
special guest stars of the first season include Dennis Weaver, Billy Dee Williams,
George Kennedy, Judge Reinhold, Graham Greene, and Robert Culp. Filmed on
location in Alberta, Canada, Lonesome Dove: The Series was renewed for a second
season under a new title - Lonesome Dove: The Outlaw Years.

DVD RELEASE
Originally released on VHS (pictured right), the series was made available on DVD in 2004 (boxed set) and in 2005 and 2008. Boxed set re-released in 2010.
