ALBUM INFO

York, February 4, 1960.
Orchestra conducted by Peter Matz. Miss Carroll's act staged by Phil Moore.
Recording supervised by Don Costa.
Here follows the original linear notes:
DIAHANN
CARROLL is just about the most exciting female performer to emerge in recent
years. I have seen many performers who are beautiful, charming, and lovely-voiced
but the difference between a good and a great performer is a little
thing - and Diahann has it. It is an intensity, a focused energy, a concentration
of power which commands attention to the exclusion of everything else.
I was present at Diahann's opening night at the Persian Room. After
she finished with us - literally - I tried to sort my thoughts. This beautiful
fragile, delicately feminine young woman singing "Heat Wave" made us believe
in her as the most dangerous of "Femme Terrible", became a lyrical,
wistful maiden-in-love singing "Misty" and a charming child-woman singing
"Goody, Goody". It was a total performance, not just a gesture here
and a facial expression there. She became all these personalitys and we in
the audience believed in her. To paraphrase from Diahann's opening
song (which quite by accident happens to be one of mine) "Everything's Coming
Up Roses For Her, and for her, and for her, etc."
-Jules Styne
